COMMUNITY SERVICES
Community Services, known as the "Storefront," is often the first contact residents have with Highbridge Community Life Center.

Since 1979, the Storefront has provided direct service to the community. The Storefront offers support services and neighborhood organizing for the community. Many Storefront staff members are community residents.
Making Connections
The Storefront extends its services to just about anybody needing just about anything. Walk-in residents come to the Storefront for food, clothing, housing, medical needs, help with government assistance, or sometimes just to chat.
Challenging Social Problems
Community Services works with residents on emerging issues that relate to their lives, the Highbridge Community, the Bronx, and the City. Highbridge is involved in community initiatives to improve education, child welfare, and more. Highbridge Horizon Newspaper is one of the vehicles that help residents become more aware of community issues.
Building Leaders
Community Services strives to develop resident leaders to improve their own community. It provides opportunities for residents to become more aware of their needs, recognize their strengths, and learn new skills that make them better people. Highbridge has strong resident, parent, and youth leadership groups that actively make a difference in the community.
Enhancing the Community
There is always a lot going on at the Storefront. The Storefront brings people together for meetings, training, social gatherings, and various activities to make positive changes in the neighborhood. Community Services has made significant strides towards improving the community, including getting speed bumps placed in front of a school, having pot holes filled, getting better street signs, improving postal service, and removing community eyesores. The Storefront is a place that promotes a stronger sense of community among residents.
